Transoesophageal Echocardiography in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine

This is the second edition of this large hardback book that could be carried in a briefcase, if you have a strong arm, but it could certainly not be described as pocket-sized. The first addition came out in 2000, at a time when there was a dearth of texts on transoesophageal echocardiography (TOE) specifically aimed at the perioperative period. The back cover of the second addition states that ‘this distinguished book has established itself as the leading clinical text on TOE in anaesthesia’. Given that the last 4 years have seen quite a few such books appear on the market, is this claim justified?
The book is divided into 19 chapters and the chapter headings suggest comprehensive coverage of the subject matter. TOE is a visual subject and there is a generous use of colour illustrations throughout.
